The Council has been working towards the construction of a Public Safety Building for the past several years, including a scoping survey, formation of the Public Safety Building Committee, open houses, and other meetings and discussions.
They have approved a contract with Big-D and JRCA Architects for the design and construction of the new single-story, 25,000-square-foot Public Safety Building which is being built adjacent to the existing facility.

The new building will meet the necessary regulations and offer a higher level of security for our Police Department, Justice Court, Animal Control, and Code Enforcement officers.

The project is set to be completed in January 2024.
The estimated project cost is $4,182,858.54
Status Updates
The official groundbreaking ceremony was held on July 21, 2022.
10/3/2022 - The footings for the new Police Department are starting to be laid.
10/20/2022 - Water has hit us! A footing drain has been put in and they are de-watering the site.
10/26/2022 - The foundation is being constructed on the west side, and footings continue being poured on the east side.
02/2023 - The foundation walls have been poured and stripped free of the forms and the foundation crews have left the building! The rebar for the masonry beams has been tied and the frost removed for the grade beams and backfilling continues.
04/2023 - Oh, the weather outside has been frightful…let it snow, let it snow, let it snow! The work on the Public Safety Building was halted due to the massive amount of snow we received in February and March. We are hopeful that the snow will pass, and our building can continue progressing.
06/2023 - The concrete floor for the new Police Department is taking place, it will be finished, weather permitting, before the middle of May, with the Steel Erectors, Mason’s and Framers starting immediately after.
8/2023 - The Masonry is done on the outside of the new Police Department, the roof is on and keeping the rain out, and the curb and gutters of the new Department's parking lot have been poured. Inside the Department, the walls are studs and the electric, plumbing, and HVAC are being installed. Sheetrock is coming soon!
